Welcome to Shetland Pride Support
LGTBQ+ Community Mental Health & Wellbeing Campaign
Mental Health and Wellbeing
Our LGBTQ+ Community Mental Health & Wellbeing Campaign in March started off with 12,500 leaflets that were delivered to every home and business in Shetland. We also produced a movie called, “The Cookie – Acceptance is Everything” and illustrates the many issues LGBTQ+ folk often have to endure. We have a Helpline where LGBTQ+ folk can have a chat.
Our overall aim is to support, help and improve the mental health and wellbeing of all LGBTQ+ folk on Shetland and to make mental health a community concern. We of course also organise our Shetland Pride Event each year to allow the LGBTQ+ community and the families of LGBTQ+ folk in Shetland and beyond to celebrate Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion.
Don’t be alone – ask us for Help & Support
If you’re LGBTQ+ and your are or have experienced mental health problems, you’re not alone. Although anybody can experience difficulties with their mental health, LGBTQ+ folk are significantly more likely to experience a mental health problem than straight and non-trans people. Research shows that more than 40% of LGBTQ+ people will experience a significant mental health problem, compared to around 25% of the whole population.
If you are experiencing or suffering from any of these issues below PLEASE don’t delay – contact us for help & support!
- Homophobic/transphobic or bigoted incidents
- Suicidal thoughts
- Drugs Addiction
- Alcohol Dependency
